SAMARIA, Satrap issue, (375-345 B.C.), silver hemiobol, (0.24 grams), obv. female head (Arethusa?), facing, border of dots, rev. bearded male head to left, with crested Athenian helmet, to left in Aramaic retrograde SMRYN, (Meshorer & Qedar 'Coinage of Samaria' (CS), (CS 9 [43 known], and Samaria Hoard No.132 [CS], [this coin illustrated and described], H.442). Very fine for issue and very scarce.

Ex. Samaria Hoard (No.132) and Sotheby, Zurich Sale, October 27-8, 1993 (lot 988 part). The latest edition of Hendin, Guide to Biblical Coins, includes these coins because they are Jewish (p.60) and covers 5 pages in his book discussing the issue and allocating 9 types with Hendin numbers.
