JUDAEA, Yehud Coinage, (c.375-333 B.C.), silver hemi-obol, (0.38 grams), probably struck at Jerusalem or Bethleham, obv. crude head of Athena to right, rev. owl standing to r., head facing, to r. downwards in Hebrew YHD, (S.-, AJC 4, H. 426, [2], (this coin type described and illustrated). Chipped on edge, otherwise nearly very fine with full inscription, rare.

Ex. David Hendin. $$ Before 1966 these Yehud coins were unknown, by the 1970's a few were found some in the Jerusalem/Bethleham area. By 1979 28 varieties were identified. This coin is in the group that is essentially the first type in the Jewish series that is available to collectors.
