SICILY, Syracuse, (400-370 B.C.), silver decadrachm, (42.07 grams), obv. charioteer driving fast quadriga left, Nike flying above holding fillet, armour and helmet on steps in exergue, rev. head of Artemis-Arethusa to left, surrounded by four dolphins, cockle shell behind neck, traces of legend above, (cf.S.954; Gallatin dies XI/E1; ACNAC Dewing 905 same dies; Jameson Collection 829 same dies). Minor scratches in field on obverse and reverse, some tooling on the reverse, otherwise good very fine with attractive dark tone.

Ex. Bishop Collection, Detroit ANA Sale 1962 ($800), then purchased from Edward Gans Feb. 8, 1963 ($1250) by Dr. Frank J. Novak (USA). $$ Gallatin notes 13 specimens from these dies.
