CONSTANTIUS I, (A.D. 305-306), gold aureus, Serdica mint, (5.37 grams), issued from May 305 to July 306, as Augustus, obv. laureate head of Constantius to right, around IMP CONSTAN TIVS P F AVG, rev. around IOVIS CON SERVATOR, in exergue SM.SD, reversed **S* in right field, Jupiter standing to left, chlamys hanging behind, holding thunderbolt, leaning on sceptre, eagle before on ground, (S.-, RIC 7a [R5, p.493 Vol.VI], Specimen noted by Elmer [p.13]). Slightly double struck on the obverse, as struck with original mint bloom, good extremely fine and extremely rare.

Noted in Volume VI (Sutherland) as R5 and therefore as unique.
