CATHERINE II, Empress of Russia, 1796, bronzed proof medal on copper, by C.H. Kuchler, 29mm, (10.8 grams), obv. Alexander I, bust to left, rev. double-headed eagle, crown above, dated 1796, (Pollard 11 [p.282]). Even brown patina, FDC, very rare, with shells.

Ex. Baldwin's Auctions, Sale 9, October 7, 1996 (lot 536). Boulton had supplied the empress with clocks and ormolu work, and visited Soho in 1776. A memorial medalet on the death of the empress would be fitting for the Soho mint.
