JAMES I AND PRINCE CHARLES, hand engraved Royalist counter in silver, possibly by Simon de Passe, c.1625, 27mm, (2.3 grams), obv. James I bust to facing, rev. Prince Charles three-quarter right, (Eimer -, MI 272 (Illustrated plate XXXIV, No.1), Fearon -). Cast and chased, with loops for suspension, extremely fine, rare.

Ex. I,S. Wright. This counter is struck in imitation of engraving, many varieties of this type are known, and those with a bearded Prince Charles are attributed to being struck c.1625. They are used as markers or counters 'for reckoning and for play'
