Lot 2376       Great Britain Silver & Bronze

Estimate $100
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $70

ANGLO SAXON, Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), silver penny, expanding cross type, GYLDEPINE ON ...N (Canterbury) (S.1176, Br. 5, BMC V). Chip out of edge, cracks, otherwise very fine.

The curious name and lettering form of the moneyer's name is unusual and identifies it as a Canterbury mint issue, even though trace of the mint is only discernable and even though this name is not known in the BMC for this type.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
