CALIGULA, (A.D. 37-41), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 40-41, (22.4 grams), obv. laureate head of Gaius (Caligula) to left, around C CAESAR DIVI AVG PRON AVG P M TR P IIII P P, rev. Gaius on platform to left before five soldiers, ADLOCVTIO above COH in exergue, (cf.S.612, RIC 48, BMC 68). Dark tone with uneven surface, good fine and rare.

A good Julio-Claudian portrait of the finest style of the period.
