REPUBLIC, Julius Caesar, (assassinated 44 B.C.), silver denarius, Spanish mint, issued 46-5 B.C., (3.8 grams), obv. Venus diademed head to right, with Cupid on shoulder, dotted border, rev. Gallia and a Gaulish captive seated beneath trophy, CAESAR in exergue, (S.357, Cr. 468/1, Syd. 1014). Off centred, otherwise very fine and scarce.
