SYRIA, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.23 grams), Tyre mint, issued year 164 = 149-8 B.C., obv. diademed and draped bust of Alexander I to right, dotted border, rev. Eagle standing to left on prow of galley, palm behind right shoulder, club surmounted by TY monogram, in left field **DXR over **AS, around **BASILEWS ALEXANDROU*, (cf.S.7033, cf.ACNAC Houghton 745, Newell 'Seleucid Coinages of Tyre ANS NN&M 73, No.65). Most attractive and very sharp striking, extremely fine and very rare.
