MACEDON, Roman Provincial issue, (c.90-75 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.57 grams), obv. head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon and flowing hair, MAKE**DONWN*, rev. AESILLAS / Q above club between money chest and quaestor's chair, all within olive wreath, (S.1463, BMC 81-83, SNG Von Post 50 [this coin]). Well centred on the obverse, scratch in reverse field, otherwise, very fine and scarce.

Ex. Von Post Collection, Sotheby's London, 9-10th October 1995 (lot 249 part). In recent times the chronology of this series has been subjected to much discussion see various articles cited in SNG Von Post, and they include papers by Fisher in ANS MN No.30 and Bauslaugh in No.32.
