SICILY, Gela, (c.465-450 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.9 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven right by male charioteer holding reins, column behind, dotted border, rev. forepart of man headed bull to right with long beard, above **[GE]LAS, (cf.S.795, Jenkins 233, obv. 62, rev. 123 [notes only six examples known of these dies]). Has been cleaned and with a diamond punch chop in centre of obverse field, otherwise nearly very fine and a rare die combination.
