SYRIA, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.57 grams), Antioch mint, dated year 163 = 150-149 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and sceptre, on right, **BASILEWS ALEXANDROU* and to left **QEOPATOROS EUERGETOU*, cornucopiae on far left, under throne date **GXR* and monogram **PR*, (cf.S.7030, cf.ACNAC Houghton 174, BMC 8, Newell 135 [ same obverse die]). Off centred on the obverse, nearly extremely fine and rare.
