SYRIA, Kingdom of, Antiochus IV, (175-164 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.31 grams), Series III, Antioch mint, issued 167-165/4 B.C., obv. diademed head of Antiochus IV to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike, on right, **BASILEOS ANTIOXOU*, to left **QEOU EPIFANOUS* in exergue NIKHFORO[U]*, monogram of **PI to left, (cf.S.6978, SMA 72). Old dark tone, very fine, scarce.

Ex. Abramowitz Family Collection Superior, Stamp and Coin auction, December 8, 1993 (lot 311). Newell notes a total of 4 tetradrachms of this variety in public collections.
