SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.75 grams), Seleucia on Tigris mint, Newell Group A, c.305-4 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, Eagle in outstretched hand, monogram to left and below throne **DI*, to right **SELEUKOU*, in exergue **BASILEWS, (cf.S.6829, Newell ESM 4, [p.12, dies A15/P42, pl.II, 8], ACNAC Houghton 941). Minor surface porosity creating uneven tone, otherwise very fine and scarce.

Ex. The Abramowitz Family collection, sold Superior Coin and Stamp auction on December 8, 1993 (lot 505). Newell knew of 48 examples of this type and but only one from this pair of dies.
