WATSON, P.F., watercolour, 'Bottle and Glass', 10 x 13.5 cm., signed with initials and dated 1886 lower left, description verso.

The artist was first President of the Royal Art Society, he was born in United Kingdom, was in Australia from 1842 - 1887, died 1907. The subject 'Bottle and Glass' are a peculiar rock formation that existed in Sydney harbour at that time near Watson's Bay. Some time later it became undermined and fell over, they were also known as 'Sow and Pigs', being part of the reef in Sydney Harbour. A further pencil note records that this painting was won in a raffle, the ticket being sold by Dr. Tibbetts of Manly. The raffle was to help Watson who was in destitute circumstances.
