BANK OF AUSTRALASIA, Sight Note for thirty days third of exchange note, for £10,000.0.0 issued at Sydney 30th March 1838 to Thomas Burdekin, with vignette etc., with watermark 'Bank of Australasia'. Very fine, very rare.

A Sydney merchant who arrived in Sydney in 1828 and established a branch of Burdekin & Hawley ironmongers and general merchants of London. He acquired a vast amount of real estate in Sydney and other parts of the colony. He died in 1844 leaving a large fortune to his widow, four sons and daughter. One of his sons Marshall Burdekin born in 1837 became an important barrister and politician.
