ITALY, Calabria, Tarentum (Taras), (272-235 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (6.446 grams), obv. naked rider on stationary horse to right, Nike flying to right above crowning him from behind, below traces of **DAMOKRITOS, above to right EY, rev. Taras astride a dolphin to right, holding a cornucopiae and trident, to left monogram of **IWPV, **TAPA S below, (cf.S.374, cf.Vl.913-926, cf.SNG ANS 1234). Obverse porosity, toned, otherwise very fine/good very fine, a die combination not in Vlasto.
