POLICE MEDAL, New Years Day 18(?) in gold (22mm, 18 carat, 7.37 grams) by Stokes & Martin, (obv. C.1884/5), rev. inscribed 'New Years Day 18(--)/ Jas Scott/ Wangaratta'. date is probably 1884 but obliterated by brooch mounting, loop mount attached, fine and as a type very rare.

Ex. Spink Australia Sale 33 (lot 2666). James Scott was a fireman at Beechworth. As warder he escorted Ned Kelly through the streets of Beechworth.
