(WARD, John), Sotheby's, Zurich, The Collection of Ancient and Later Coins, The Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Part I Roman Gold Coins, November 10 1972, @80pp.s, lots 1-347, every lot in text and on seven enlarged and black and white plates and a colour plate; Part II Greek Coins From the John Ward Collection, 4th - 5th April 1973, @150 pp., 31 B/W plates and 2 colour plates, lots 1 - 773, first volume with prices realised list, hardbound with gilt lettering. Most important, as issued, the second volume with pen name erased on inside cover, both are very scarce. (2)

This collection, the Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art was donated to that museum and was sold to finance other works of art. The most elaborate catalogue produced in the 1970's and herald the current solid interest and prices in ancient coins. A most important collection the subject of another book produced by John Ward nearly 100 years ago.
