SOLD $50

AFGHAN INVASION, Durrani or Saddozai Dynasty, Ahmad Shah, (A.H. 1160-1186, A.D. 1747-1772), in his name, Muradabad mint, silver rupee, obverse A.H. date [117] 3, with regal year 14, (KM.683 different dies). Very fine and very rare.

The mint reading which is very clear. The obverse legend design differs significantly from the same year example illustrated in Krause, by having the 3 of the AH year visible on the second line of the obverse. Ahmad Shah conquered regions of India including Muradabad but apparently struck coins only in this year, and they are much rarer than KM suggests.
