GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 242-4 (21.4, grams), obv. laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. around SECVRITAS AVG, SC in exergu, Securitas seated left, holding a sceptre and propping head on left hand, (cf.S.2505, RIC 311a, C.333). With a brown patination, nearly very fine and a scarce reverse type.

Ex Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection, sold in Triton III (lot 1722 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts with his ticket.
