GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 238-9 (18.842, grams), obv. laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, around IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, rev. around VICTORIA AVG, SC across field, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm, (S.2507, RIC 258a, C.358). On a round flan, with attractive dark green-brown patina, good very fine and a scarce reverse type.

Ex Emile Bourgey Paris stock 21 December 1951 to Cornelius C. Vermeule III, who sold in Triton III (lot 1722 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts with his ticket.
