FAUSTINA JUNIOR, wife of Marcus Aurelius, (died A.D.175), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (23.6 grams), obv. draped bust to right of Faustina wearing a diadem, around FAVSTINA AVGVSTA, rev. SAECVLI FELICIT around, Pulvinar on which are Commodus and Antoninus, without stars, S C across field, (S.1510, RIC 1666, C.194). Deep green-black patina, with an old flan crack, otherwise good very fine and rare in this condition.

Ex Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection sold in Triton III (lot 1709 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
