SABINA, wife of Hadrian, (died A.D.136-7), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (28.3 grams), obv. draped bust to right of Sabina, with hair knotted at back of head, around SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P.P., rev. PIETAS AVG around, Pietas standing facing, head to left, with a small girl on left and a boy on right, S C across, (cf.S.1193, RIC 1030, C.52). Obverse porosity in field and cheek, otherwise very fine and rare.

Ex Leopold G.P. Messenger Collection (lot 149 part), A.H. Baldwin & Sons April 25, 1953 (Å“3.8.0) and Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection sold in Triton III (lot 1709 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, with his ticket.
