LILYWHITE ASSOCIATION - IN COMMEMORATION OF 1917 N.S.W. General Strike badge made by William Trantum who was a jeweller in the Sydney suburb of Newtown. This association was formed by the unionists involved in the N.S.W. general strike of 1917. Membership was open only to those strikers who did not return to work until the strike had ended some months later. Reverse: die struck, reg. 2771 Stg. Sil.; Makers name Trantum and impressed no. 335 silver. As only a handful of these have survived it is extremely rare. Smith 429. Nearly extremely fine.
