Estimate $150
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $180

CEYLON (SRI LANKA), uncertain piece, possibly a weight for 48 stivers (or double half rix dollar) circa 1815, in copper (9.5 grams) or a trial, no legend, die axis upright; other 19th century copper tokens from Canada (5); English and Irish tokens of 18th century (3). Very good - very fine, the first excessively rare if not unique (9).

THe first piece compares to a similar example for value 96 stivers which was in the W.J. Noble Sale 61B (lot 1530). The discovery of this piece lends further weight to it coming from Ceylon and relating to a value of 48 stivers either as a weight or trial piece.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
