THESSALY, Larissa (under Simos, the Tetrarch of Larissa), (352-344 B.C.), silver drachm, (5.874 grams), obv, facing head three-quarter to right of nymph Larissa with spread hair, [**SIMO*] above head off flan, dotted border, rev. horse grazing to right, above **[LAPI], plain exergue, (cf.S.2123, Hermann Pl.VIII, 15 [same obverse die]; Lorber, group I, head type 3, No.7.1, [same dies], BMC 78, SNG Fitz. 2416, CNA Sale 5 , 9 December 1988 [lot 95 same dies]). Off centred, fine/good fine, a very rare variant.

Simos was the Aleuad chief who was appointed Tetrarch for one of the four divisions of Thessaly by the Macedonian king Philip II in 352 B.C.
