SICILY, Acragas (Agrigentum), (c.520-472 B.C.), silver didrachm, Jenkins Group I, (8.56 grams), obv. eagle with closed wings standing to left, AKRAC ANTO**S* around, rev. crab on plain broad flan, (cf.S.708, SNG Cop.22-23 [Pl.1 similar dies]. cf.SNG ANS 905-914 [similar dies]). Nearly very fine and rare, the earliest type.

This lot and the other Sicilian didrachms in this sale come from a very important find containing only didrachms. The find has not been previously recorded, all are illustrated and are noted in this sale for future publication. The hoard was buried late in the 5th century BC.
