AUSTRIA, Archduke Charles II Founder of University of Graz 300th Anniversary, 1886-7, in bronze (54mm), obverse bust of Archduke Charles II half facing, reverse, wreath and ribbon scroll above 10-line inscription, legend around edge, ANNO . MDLXXXVI . VII CAL. DEC:' at top and, 'ANNO . MDCCCLXXXVI. VII CAL. DEC:' at bottom. Nicely toned, nearly uncirculated.

The University of Graz in Graz, Austria was founded in 1585 by Archduke Charles II of Austria and approved by Pope Sixtus V on 1 January 1586. It was closed in 1782 and re-opened in 1827 by Emperor Francis I thereby gaining the name Carolo-Franciscea University (or Karl-Franzens Universitat of Graz in German language).
