PHOENICIA, Arados, (2nd-1st century B.C., but dated year 194 = 65/64 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.918 grams), obv. turreted and veiled bust of Tyche to right dotted border, rev. Nike standing to left, holding aphlaston and palm-branch, **ARADIWN* to right, to left **D*qp (year 194 = 65-64 B.C.), over 'aleph' over **AS*, all within laurel wreath, (S.5992, ANSMN 28, Kromann 'Studies in Ancient History and Numismatics to Rudi Thomsen p.112 notes 4 specimens of this date and variety). Bright, slightly off centred on the reverse, nearly extremely fine and very scarce.

The study of this series of tetradrachms of Arados by Kromann in Thomsen as above shows that these civic tetradrachms began in 138/7 B.C., and continued until 44/3 B.C. She records only about 150 examples in her extensive survey.
