THESSALY, Thessalian League, (196-146 B.C.), silver double victoriatus, (6.016 grams), Larissa mint, obv. head of Zeus to right, crowned with oak leaves, rev. Athena Itonia advancing to right, brandishing spear and holding shield, on sides **QESSAA LWN*, above across **DAMO QION[OS]*, below across **FILOXENI[DHS]*, (cf.S.2232, cf.BMC 33 [p.3] with above and below legends below and above). Bright, well centred, extremely fine a rare variant and desireable.

Ex Patrick Cooper Collection with his ticket, and previously from Glendinning's London auction 9/6/1982 (lot 141).
