GROUP OF SIX: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 with MID; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Coronation Medal 1937; Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration (GRI). Captain G.I.Adcock. A.I.F. on first two medals, NX101558 on the third and fourth medals, fifth medal unnamed as issued, Mjr G.I.Adcock. U.L on last medal. The first four medals impressed and the last medal engraved. Swing mounted, very fine.

Note: There is no confirmation of MID on Adcock's Service Record.

Garnet Ingamells Adcock, mining engineer, age 21, born at Geelong, Vic; he was a member of the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy and his father was George H.Adcock, Viticultural College, Rutherglen, Vic; Enl.03May 1916 at Broadmeadow, Vic, previous service with Senior Cadets and 67th Infantry, currently serving with No 5 Tunnelling Coy; at the time he held 26 certificates in scientific and technical subjects from the Government of Victoria and had been State Honourman in chemistry; appt Lt and Emb.25May1916; served with No 2 and 5 Tunnelling Coys; suffered shell shock 29Dec1916; appt Adjutant 2nd Tunnelling Coy 01Feb1917 and Captain 11Jan1918; married Belgium national, Marguerite Marie Van Coillie at Orleans, France on 25Nov1918; 04May-04Jun1919 granted leave for non-military employment to work at Perfume Factory of MM Euziere & Lafitte at Grasse near Nice, France; 05Jun-05Jul1919 granted leave again to attend course in Herb & Medicinal Plant Culture at 'The Whins' High School, at Bucks, England and also to deliver a course of lectures on Plant Product Chemistry to the school; RTA 04Sep1919 with his wife; appt terminated 21Oct1919; he remained a member of the Army Reserve; awarded Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers' Decoration in 1931; served in WWII; Enl.18Jul1942 at St Ives, Sydney, NSW; Disch.27Mar1946 as Lt Colonel ex HQ VDC (he was Commanding Officer of the Volunteer Defence Corps in NSW).

Garnet's son, Albert Van Coillie also served in WWII as a Captain with 35 Bn.

Soon after returning from WWI, Garnet Adcock purchased a farm in the Gosford district on the NSW Central Coast. This property included the historic Fagan's Cottage built in 1836-40. He intended to build a career in the perfume industry but soon turned his attention to the citrus industry. He erected a factory and started using citrus oil as a base for his perfumes but soon established a company called Fruit and Vegetable By-Products to utilise the fruit he was throwing away after extracting the juice for perfume. This company became Jusfrute and just five years later he dropped the perfume part of his operations and became one of the first in the world to make an emulsion from the skin of citrus fruit to use as a flavour for soft drinks. The company was very successful but in 1965 it was taken over by Keith Harris & Co with Garnet's son, Van, appointed Managing Director in 1972, a position he held until his retirement in 1977. The factory was closed in 1982 because of a lack of a good supply of fruit in the Gosford area.

Garnet Adcock was the second President of the Gosford RSL 1921-24. He also qualified as a lawyer. He made an unsuccessful run for NSW State parliament in 1931 nominating for the seat of Hawksbury as a member of the Country Party. He wrote several books and articles, some of these books are, The Perfume Industry and its Possibilities in Australia by Capt. G.I.Adcock, 1920; How to Deal with Military Offences (A.I.F. & A.M.F.) by Lieut-Colonel G.I.Andcock, V.D., 18th Battalion (The Kurig-gai Regt), A.M.F., Barrister-at-Law, 1941; The Jusfrute Book by G.I.Adcock, 1949, A Textbook of Soft Drink Manufacture; Citrus in the Gosford District by Chemist G.I.Adcock, V.D., M.S.E., Managing Director, Jusfrute Ltd.

Garnet Ingamells Adcock died on 18 December 1956 and is buried at Point Clare Cemetery, Gosford, NSW along with his wife and son, albiet in different locations. Tributes to Garnet Adcock in the Gosford area include Adcock Park, Racecourse Road, West Gosford and also Garnet Adcock Memorial Park, West Gosford.
