GRATIAN, (A.D. 367-383), gold solidus, issued at Trier mint in A.D. 376-377, (4.40 g), obv. Gratian, pearl diademed bust to right, draped and cuirassed, around DN GRATIA NVS PF AVG, rev. two emperors facing side by side, supporting globe between them, palm between the emperors legs, upper part of Victory hovering above in the background, around VICTOR IA AVGG, in exergue TROBT, (S.19912, RIC 39d, Depeyrot 45/2). Slight tooling at 10.00 oclock, full flan, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex D.J.Foster Collection and previously from Spink Noble Sale 43 (lot 1520).
