JULIUS CAESAR, (assassinated 44 B.C.), gold aureus, Rome Mint, issued 46 B.C., moneyer A. Hirtius (7.83 g). Obv. C CAESAR COS TER, veiled female head to right, dotted border, rev. A.HIRTIUS P R, lituus, jug and axe (emblems of the augurate and pontificate), dotted border, (S.1395, Cr.466/1, Syd.1017). Large flan, slightly off centred on reverse, nearly very fine/very fine and scarce.

Ex D.J.Foster Collection and previously from Spink Noble Sale 40 (lot 2603).
