MACEDON, Kingdom of, Demetrios Poliorketes, (294 - Autumn 288 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.97 g), Pella mint, c.290-289 B.C., obv. diademed and horned head of Demetrios to right, rev. Poseidon standing to left, holding trident, right foot on rock, on right, **BASILEWS*, on left side **DHMHTRIOU*, to left monogram of E reversed, P & K, to right, A,T monogram, dotted border, (cf.S.6764, Newell Series V, 86 (p.93, cf.Pl.VIII, 1 [rev. die 141 {This die}, 2 for type but Plate VII, 16 [same obverse die LXX, same reverse die as 141], cf.Gabler AMNG 11 [p.182, Pl.XXXIII, 3]). Extremely rare, only known example from these dies, a few minor surface marks, otherwise very fine or better.
