319 Trp William Edgar Curgenven served in the Boer War with 5th Imperial Contingent (South Australia). He also served in WWI with service number 5834. He enlisted at age 34 and stated his occupation as stockman, born at Adelaide. On his medical record it shows that he had two bullet wounds in his leg. During his WWI service his record is appalling and on 11Dec1917 he was subject to Court Martial for impersonating a Coy Sgt Major - found guilty and sentenced to ten years penal servitude, later commuted to two years. He was discharged 20Mar1920. In accordance with a decision by the Standing Medals Board, he was issued no WWI service medals because of his unsatisfactory service.
