SICILY, Syracuse, (485-479 B.C.), silver tetradrachm (17.30 g), obv. Slow quadriga driven right by male charioteer holding goad; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses, dotted border, rev. Medium size head of Artemis-Arethusa right, hair slightly waved and turned up behind, under a diadem of beads; four dolphins around, **S*V RA KO **SI O* N around, (cf.S.914, Boehringer 316 [Dies Obv.V153, Rev. R222, 3 specimens noted], Randazzo 484 [p.71, Pl.18], SNG Munich 970 [Pl.29, same dies], only other known examples noted by Boehringer are Ratto and Feuardent sales). Toned, good very fine/very fine, centred and very rare.
