1914 STAR, - clasp - 5th Aug.-22nd Nov.1914. 6943 Pte W.Stevens. 1/Hamps. R. Impressed. Ribbon tatty, clasp not fitted, very fine.

William Stevens, born in the Parish of St Luke's Southampton; Enlisted at Southampton while residing at Old Portswood, Hants. KIA 07Nov1914 when 'A' Coy of the 1st Bn were holding the line in the Ploegsteert Area in Belgium. The 1st Bn which entered France 23Aug1914 as part of 11th Bde, 4 Div had been heavily engaged with the enemy in this area and were suffering casualties. Pte Stevens has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
