COMMERCIAL BANK OF SYDNEY, one pound, Sydney, 18 March 1856, No. 15218 (MVR p.142-152 on bank type 2), Printed by Perkins, Bacon & Co., London. Folds and repair to tears, paper toning, good colour and nearly fine, extremely rare and the earliest known example, probably unique.

This bank commenced in 1832 as the 'Commercial Banking Company of Sydney' and remodelled with a new bank bearing the name 'The Commercial Bank of Sydney'. That bank suspended payment on May 16, 1893 and reopened as 'The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Limited' on June 19, 1893. In 1983 it was merged with the National Bank of Australasia to become National Australia Bank (NAB).
