PAIR TO CRIMEA CASUALTY: South Africa Medal 1854; Crimea Medal 1854-56, - clasp - Sebastopol. Staff Asst Surgn. N.O'Connor, M.D. on first medal, second medal unnamed. Named medal impressed. Clasp on Crimea Medal loose, contact marks, otherwise very fine.

Together with small Medical Staff button (QVC), lug on back missing.

Nicholas O'Connor, born 10Sep1814; Enl.05Apr1839; stationed at Barbados 03May1841; Staff Surgeon 2nd Cl 12Nov1847; served in South Africa in the 2nd and 3rd Kaffir Wars 1846-53; Staff Surgeon 1st Cl 15May1855; arrived at Crimea 13Oct1855; died of disease 07Jun1856; name recorded on the memorial at the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley, Southampton to honour those Medical Officers who lost their lives in the Crimea.
