THEATRE TOKENS, Stratford-on-Avon, Shakespeare Jubilee 1769 in silver (32mm) by Westwood (D&W.39/410; M.5725; BHM.136) (illustrated); David Garrick on Sim's token (D&H.478; M.5726); Garrick Theatre, 1830, in brass (31mm) W&C (illustrated). Fine or better, the first rare. (3)

Ex W.J. Noble Collection, Sale 61B (lot 727) and previously CMW Ltd, Sale 16 October 1979 (lot 372).

Re the first, the Gentleman's Magazine of 1769 carries a letter from a correspondent attending the Festival in which he states that "my dress consisted of ... a silver medal of Shakespeare, pendant from a sky blue ribbon round my neck."
