Private John James Prestage, born Hobart, Tasmania 03Jul1904; Enl.04Jan1940 at Brighton, Tasmania; Disch.16Feb1943 ex 30 Garrison Coy. It was reported in The Mercury (Hobart, Tasmania), Monday 09Jun1924 that John James Prestage, a young man, who had just come out of prison after serving 12 months' sentence was charged with having stolen, at Hobart, two Remington repeating rifles, two dozen gramophone records, a bicycle lamp, and a quantity of tinned food from a yacht moored off the Domain between May 4 and 10. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
