AUSTRIA, Ferdinand III (1637 - 1657), silver taler, 1646, (28.73 g), Vienna mint, obv. FERDINANDVS. III. D.G bird in circle R.I.S.A.G.HVN.BO : REX., bust to right, rev. .ARCHID.AVS.DVX. BVR.CO. TYR.C 1646, crowned double eagle with arms, (D.3174, KM.840). Lightly toned, nearly extremely fine, scarce.

Ex Alan Jordan Collection. King of Hungary 1625, Bohemia 1627, commander of imperial army after murder of Wallenstein 1634-5. He was elected king of the Romans in 1636 and succeeded his father, Ferdinand II, as Emperor, 1637-1657. This type was struck 1637-1649.
