LONDON HIGHLAND SOCIETY, 1881, Tribute to the 42nd Regiment, in bronze (49mm) (BHM 512), inscribed around edge 'O'n Choumun Chaeleach D'on Fhreiceadan Dubh Na XLII Rt' (from the London Highland Society to the Black Watch or 42nd Regt). Extremely fine.

These medals were intended for presentation to the officers and men of the 42nd Regiment as a token of regard for the valour shown by the regiment in Egypt. The medals were never issued, however an example in gold was presented to the President of the Highland Society, the Duke of York, and one example each to Sir Ralph Abercromby's four sons.
