Joseph Rex Hall, accountant, age 24, born at Kerang, Victoria; served 2.5 years in AAMC militia; Enl.18Aug1914 in AIF and to Camp Broadmeadows; 09May1915 to 1st LH Field Ambulance on Gallipoli; 06Aug1915 to Sgt; 02Oct1915 to Staff Sgt; 01Jul1916 to 2nd Lt; 07Jul1916 to 4 Coy Imperial Camel Corps for ops in Western Desert; 13May1919 Aide de Campe to General Chauvel; Emb.26Jul1919 for RTA; Disch.14Jan1920 and to 20LHR militia and later 2nd Cavalry Divn; member of Army Coronation Contingent 1937; 19Nov1937 to Major; 30Sep1941 to Lt Colonel 23/21 Infy Bn; 06May1942 to Darwin during Japanese air raids; WWII Enl.03Aug1942 in 2nd AIF; Emb.17Aug1942 for service as ship's staff on transport to Middle East; 14Dec1946 to Reserve List; 22Sep1950 to Retired List as Colonel. ED: CAG No 63 27/3/1941 to Major J R Hall, 3rd MD. Awarded Order of the British Empire (Officer) (OBE) Civil 01Jan1969 for services to ex servicemen. Col J R Hall is mentioned at length in the History of the Naval and Military Club, Melbourne and was a well known horseman in the Melbourne Anzac Day March and also prominent in Melbourne Legacy and the Shrine of Remembrance.
