GEORGE II, proof halfpenny, 1729, struck in silver, obv. young laureate and cuirassed bust left, no stop in legend, GEORGIVS II REX, toothed border both sides, rev. inverted die axis, Britannia seated left on globe, with shield, spear and spray of leaves, BRITAN NIA. date in exergue, edge plain striated (S.3717, Peck 834). Toned, practically as struck with excess metal to the rims, very rare.

Ex Baldwin's, Auction 50, April 24, 2007 (lot 350) from the Gregory Collection and previously from the C E G Mackerell collection sold at Sothebys, 14 May 1906, lot 169 (part) with his ticket.
