EDWARD III, (1327-1377), silver pennies, post treaty period, issued 1369-1377, York Mint, (S.1648-1651). Fair - fine. (16)
Ex Attenborough Hoard (1966) in original British Museum packets described with weights and coin numbers from the hoard (numbers 615, 674, 677, 680, 688, 689, 692, 695, 708, 723, 739, 745 and others with uncertain numbers). The Attenborough hoard was found at Attenborough near Nottingham in 1966. It was published in full in the British Numismatic Journal Volume XXXVIII (1969) pages 50-83. The 1102 coins of the hoard, considered as one of the most important hoards found in the 20th century, were buried in 1420. Coins of Edward III included in this hoard had been in circulation for up to 60 years and tend to be worn to a weight that is corresponding by weight loss to the current Henry V coins in circulation at the time of the hoard's burial. All coins were individually published in the BNJ account and have that number given in that account and the BNJ also on p59 note that all the coins had been photographed and described by the British Museum and are in packets with Marion Archibald's hand written description.
