Q. TITIUS, (c.90 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.82 grams), obv. head of Mutinus Titinus to right with diadem, rev. Q.TITI on tablet from which springs Pegasus to right, (S.238, Cr.341/1, Syd.691, Titia 1). Scratch on obverse field, otherwise attractively toned with blue highlights, good very fine with a long provenance.
Ex Charles E. Weber collection and Triton VII auction, lot 1357 (part). With detailed collector’s tickets and original sale card from Adolph E. Cahn, Frankfurt. The god Mutinus Titinus is the same as Priapus, who was especially worshipped by young women in Rome.
