ANONYMOUS ISSUE, (c.115-114 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.52 grams), obv. Roma helmeted head to right, X below, ROMA behind, rev. Roma seated right, wolf and twins before, two birds in field, (S.164, Cr.287/1, Syd.530, RSC. 176). Struck on a full flan, mild surface pitting, otherwise toned, good very fine and scarce.

Ex Charles E. Weber collection and Triton VII auction, lot 1357 (part). With detailed collector’s tickets. This evocative reverse was revived nearly 200 years later on an aureus of Titus.
